US President Donald Trump has pardoned former Major League Baseball star Darrell Strawberry, the White House confirmed on Friday. Strawberry pleaded guilty to tax fraud in 1995 and spent 11 months in Florida state prison for drug crimes.
“Time taken and taxes paid.”
A White House official said Associated Press That the 63-year-old was using his post-career time to find “faith in Christianity” and stay sober for a decade. Strawberry also became active in the ministry and started a recovery center that still operates today, the official said.

According to a White House statement, Strawberry pleaded guilty to tax evasion and “served time and paid taxes.”
Strawberry won a World Series with the New York Mets in 1986 and with the New York Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999.
Trump’s pardon in the second term
Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has issued a wide series of pardons, some controversial, others questionable.

On the first day of his second term as president, Trump pardoned more than 1,500 people accused or convicted of the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Two days later, Trump issued a full and unconditional pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the creator of Silk Road, the dark web marketplace for illegal drugs and weapons.
In March, Trump pardoned Trevor Milton, founder of electric vehicle startup Nikola, who was sentenced to four years in prison for fraud. Many questioned the inappropriateness of Trump’s pardon of Milton, as the 42-year-old and his wife donated more than $1.8 million to the US president’s re-election campaign fund.
Last month, Trump pardoned Changpeng Zhao, also known as CZ, founder of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance. In his recent interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, Trump said he knew nothing about the Binance founder, less than a month after he pardoned Czechoslovakia.
