A young man was killed when an SUV collided with a stationary truck Ahmedabad news

A 23-year-old man was killed after the SUV he was driving collided with a stationary truck that had “broken down” at the Thaltej underpass at about 5am on Saturday, police said. Two other passengers — both women — were in the SUV and one of them was seriously injured, police said.

The police identified the deceased as Aryan Sureshkumar Batra (23), adding that Priyanshi Manoj Choksi (22) was admitted to GMERS Sola Civil Hospital with serious head injuries. The third person in the SUV, Kirti Pavan Agrawal (21), sustained minor injuries and was treated at Zydus Hospital.

An FIR was registered at the traffic police station on SG Highway-2, based on a complaint by the truck owner, Saduram Sahibram Karjawal, 38, a resident of Mehsana.

The FIR said: “On November 7, around 9 pm, our driver Mahesh Thakur loaded goods from Palanpur, Banaskantha, into my truck. Then, in the night, another driver, Rafiqmiya Usmanmiya Sindhi (38), took over the vehicle at Mehsana. Around 12:30 am, driver Sindhi called me and informed me that the truck had stopped on the road at Thaltej while it was heading towards Sarkhej, in Thaltig Underbridge and that the goods were lying there, so I asked him to put some tree branches in the back of the truck and put a red cloth on them, and he said he also turned on the parking lights.

“At around 3am, the driver Sindhi called me and said his mother-in-law had died, so he was going to Desa,” Karjawal said. This left the truck unattended and hence the owner left his home in Mehsana and reached the spot in Ahmedabad around 7 am on Saturday.

“When we arrived, we found that a black Kia Seltos had collided with the truck on the left side. The SUV was also at the spot. Our truck had damage to the left rear bumper and body. But the windshield, door glass, front bumper, dashboard, steering wheel, headlights, bonnet and side panel were damaged,” the FIR said.

Karjawal said locals told him that at around 5am, the driver of a Kia Seltos collided with the truck. Further investigations are underway, Inspector U P Dakhda said.
