Manoj More has been with the Indian Express since 1992. For the first 16 years, he worked on the desk, editing stories, creating pages, writing feature stories and managing the Indian Express edition. During his 31-year career, he regularly wrote stories on a range of topics, primarily on civic issues such as the condition of roads, choked drains, garbage problems, inadequate transport facilities and the like. He has also written powerfully about local Gondism. He primarily wrote urban stories from Pimpri Chinchwad, Khadki, Maval and some parts of Pune. He has also covered stories from Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Sangli, Ahmednagar and Latur. He has had hugely impactful stories from the industrial city of Pimpri-Chinchwad which he has covered extensively over the past three decades. Manoj More has written more than 20,000 stories. 10,000 of them are secondary stories. Most of the stories relate to civil and political issues. The biggest achievement of his career is the completion of a nearly 2 km long road on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway at Khadki in 2006. He has been writing stories on the condition of the roads since 1997. Within 10 years, nearly 200 two-wheeler riders died in accidents due to the pathetic condition of the road. The local cantonment board was unable to rebuild the road because it lacked funds. The then PMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi took the initiative, went out of his way and blazed the trail for Khadki by spending Rs 23 crore of JNNURM funds. In the next 10 years after the construction of the road by PMC, less than 10 citizens died, saving more than 100 lives. Manoj More’s campaign against tree felling on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway in 1999 and the Pune-Nashik Expressway in 2004 saved 2,000 trees. During the Covid period, more than 50 doctors were asked to pay Rs 30 lakh each to get a job in PCMC. The PCMC management alerted Manoj More who wrote a story about it, and then asked the companies how much money they were demanding… The story worked as the doctors got the job without paying a single paisa. Manoj More also covered the ‘Latur drought’ in 2015 when the ‘Latur water train’ created a huge stir in Maharashtra. He also covered the Malin tragedy where more than 150 villagers died.
