In a first of its kind move, residents can now get their electricity meter tested at the Meter Testing Laboratory in Chandigarh.

With an aim to enhance transparency and ensure electricity accuracy, Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has set up a state-of-the-art in-house meter testing facility at the substation in Sector 56.
According to officials, the primary objective of setting up the facility is to ensure that every electricity meter supplied to consumers meets accuracy standards.

The new laboratory will enable stringent quality and performance checks of meters before installation, ensuring fair and transparent billing to all consumers, said Arun Kumar Verma, Director, CPDL.
The laboratory is scheduled to become fully operational, which represents an important milestone towards improving the quality of service and enhancing consumer confidence.

CPDL has begun a process to obtain certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), with the goal of making the facility a standard for quality assurance and a reflection of its commitment to customer satisfaction and trust.
The testing facility will also be available to consumers to test their meters by applying at the respective SDO offices.
A senior official said Indian Express“Basically before installing the meter on consumer premises, CPDL will test it to ensure its accuracy. However, if someone wants to get the already installed meter to be inspected, they can also submit a request to the concerned SDO office.”

Apart from this, CPDL will establish an advanced consumer complaint redressal system, including a dedicated helpline and online complaint registration, to ensure speedy resolution of consumer issues.
