Spiritual leader and founder of Art of Living Foundation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, visited Hurriyat leader and chief cleric of Kashmir Valley, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in Srinagar on Thursday.
The Mirwaiz family said in a statement that the meeting, which was held at the Mirwaiz family’s residence in the Negin area of Srinagar, discussed peace, compassion and interfaith harmony.
“Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who is visiting Kashmir after seven years, expressed his happiness at returning to the valley and lauded its spiritual and cultural heritage as a symbol of coexistence,” the statement read.

She also said that the Mirwaiz Foundation remains “committed to peace and dialogue as the most humane and effective means of addressing issues and resolving differences.”
“The two leaders agreed that injustice and disempowerment lead to extremism that threatens peace,” the statement said, adding that Mirwaiz appreciated Shri Sri Ravi Shankar’s efforts in combating drugs in the Kashmir Valley. “The two leaders agreed that continued dialogue and mutual understanding are essential to promoting peace and human dignity,” the statement said.
