A man taking a daily dose of termin injections, which helped him gain muscle, beat up his northwest Delhi tenant for more than two days after he suspected the victim of trying to hack his phone, police said on Friday.

The accused, Irshad (31 years old), was arrested after Tamani died while giving a statement to the police on Sunday.

The matter came to light last Friday, when Tamani, along with his roommate Virender, arrived at the house of Nazim – his friend and colleague in a shoe factory.

“At around 5 am, Tamani visited Nazim with Virender. He claimed that on Wednesday and Thursday, Ershad – who lives on the floor above them – detained them in his room and assaulted them with fists and belt,” said Bhisham Singh of the Communist Party (North West).

Tamani and Virender managed to escape and reached Nizam’s house on Friday. Tammany complained of severe pain and initially took painkillers prescribed by a local clinic, police said.

“But his condition worsened at night and he was taken to Dr. Riaz’s clinic around 10 pm, where the doctor advised an ultrasound scan of the abdomen. On Saturday, the ultrasound revealed a large amount of blood in the abdominal area. After that, Tamani along with Nazim and others came to Subhash Place police station on Sunday,” he said.

As Tammany began telling his version of events, he began to feel dizzy and eventually passed out, police said. He was taken to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital where he was declared dead.

Based on Tamani’s statement, a murder case was registered and Ershad was returned to Rohini. During interrogation, police said Ershad claimed that he suspected Tamani was trying to delete a video of an alleged theft at his factory in Wazirpur from his phone.

“He also suspected Tammani and Virender of stealing some of his rare coins… He was a coin collector and had recently found some missing coins,” the DCP said.

He added: “He also said that he was addicted to tramine injections, which he used to enhance his strength during exercises at the gym, and that he had taken the drug when he was assaulting the two men as well.”
