Harmanpreet Kaur’s India created history on Sunday, beating South Africa by 52 runs to win their maiden ODI World Cup title at the DYPatil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
After winning the Women’s ODI World Cup final on Sunday, pacer Jemima Rodriguez kept the promise she made four years ago of unveiling the team song on the day the team won the quadrennial event. In a BCCi video released after the win, the hitter can be seen leading the way singing for the team and she was joined by the rest of her teammates, as well as members of the support staff.
“We decided nearly four years ago that we would only reveal our team song when we won the World Cup. And tonight is the night,” Rodriguez said in the video, before the team gathered to sing.
“Team India, Team India,
Everyone’s leaves are tight,
Team India is here to fight.
Who brought us light?
Our future is bright.
Ride on the moon, buy with me,
We are Team India, and together we will win.
No one will take the sword, we will fight.
Sabse upar, our tricolour, will remain.
“We are Team India, We are Team India, We are Team India.”

Rodriguez herself was excellent in the win, her unbeaten 127 against Australia in the semi-final, sending the hosts home in a tense 339-run chase.
Pouring her heart out after the win, the 25-year-old spoke of facing anxiety with the help of her mother, other teammates and her faith in God Almighty, which kept her going despite facing the setback of being left out of the starting XI for the match against England in Indore.
Rodriguez was one of several members of the current squad who were playing a World Cup for the first time and managed to win the title in their first attempt.
