6.34 lakh to vote in 14 Municipal Councils and 3 Municipal Panchayats | Pune News

As many as 6,34,940 voters will vote in the elections to 14 panchayats and three municipal councils in Pune district on December 2, the Maharashtra State Election Commission announced on Tuesday. In all, 398 corporators will be elected across 222 wards in these panchayats and panchayats, according to information provided by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dhodi.

Baramati is the largest municipal council with 20 wards and 41 corporations, followed by Phursonji Uruli Devachi Council with 16 wards and 32 corporations.

Out of a total of 222 constituencies, 51 will elect one corporation, 166 will elect two corporations, and five constituencies will elect three corporations.

Voting is scheduled to take place in 730 centers, an increase from 515 centers in the previous elections. There will be 811 electronic voting machine control units (CUs) and 1,623 ballot units (BUs). July 1 was announced as the deadline for registration on the voter list for the upcoming elections.

Of the 17 municipal councils, Barmati is the only first-class council. Five B-category councils are Lonavala, Daund, Chakan, Talegaon Dabhadi, and Phursungi Urali Devachi. Eight municipal councils are C-grade, namely Saswad, Jejuri, Indapur, Shirur, Junnar, Alandi, Pur, and Rajgurunagar.

Of these, elections will be held for the first time in the new municipal panchayat Fursonji Uruli Devachi and the new municipal panchayats Manchar and Malegaon Budruk.

In the 2024 Vidhan Sabha elections, 6,31,194 voters were registered in the same district limits. An increase of 3,746 voters was observed in the current elections.

“We have received about 3,000 tadibar proposals from police departments regarding the elections and have asked our officers to take a detailed call on them,” Dodi said.

The complex added that about 17,000 voter names were identified as duplicates or duplicates on voter lists. “We have identified 17,000 such names. At the booths, care will be taken that these people are able to vote only once. This usually happens when a person moves from a village to a city and the name is not deleted from the previous list.”

Dodi said that the previous elections witnessed a voter turnout rate of 71 percent, and that the administration is working to achieve a turnout rate of up to 75 percent this time. All voting booths will be located on the ground floor and will have drinking water, bathrooms and ramps for people with disabilities. In total, 3,240 election staff were appointed.
