Yami Gautam defends Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour demand, says male stars have been doing it for decades: ‘It’s a problem when women say it’ | Bollywood News

actor Yami Gautam She recently came out in support of Deepika Padukone’s stand on 8-hour work. Deepika made headlines after she reportedly walked out of two high-profile projects – Spirit Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD sequel – because her demand for an 8-hour workday after becoming a mother went unfulfilled. Recently, Yami, who also gave birth to son Vidavid last year, defended Deepika’s decision.

In an interview with Times Now News. Yami “Whether a woman is a worker or a homemaker, every mother is special and does everything she can for her child. As much as we like to have a time cap like any other field, but ours is a little different. Locations, permissions, permutations, combinations, other actors, technicians, there are so many things. So the whole concept of time cap, for me, is very personal to the actor, producer and director collaboration and understanding,” Gautam said.

Yami also pointed out how many male stars work only 8-hour shifts and avoid weekends, maintaining a healthy work-life balance. However, when a star asks for the same thing, it often turns into an argument.

“This is something that’s been happening for decades. There are actors who only shoot for eight hours a day, they shoot five days a week, and they don’t shoot at night. This is pre-determined between the director, producer and actor. So why if a female actor said it, it became an issue. At the end of the day, we’re human beings who make art and emotions in very strange circumstances. So I don’t think there’s anything wrong with asking for a time if it suits the production. If it suits the production, they go ahead with it, and if it doesn’t happen, they don’t,” she added.

After leaving the cinema, Deepika maintained a long silence. However, she has recently spoken out about not being afraid to question the status quo and demand a better work-life balance for everyone in the industry. “When I started my journey, I was often told how a woman should or was expected to navigate her career in order to be successful. However, from the beginning, I was never afraid to ask questions, ruffle feathers, take a harder path and challenge the status quo in order to reshape the mold that we were all expected to fit into,” she said.
