Fabian Horzler said that all of Danny Welbeck’s teammates at Brighton believe he should be included in coach Thomas Tuchel’s English squad to participate in international matches in November.
Tuchel is scheduled to announce his squad on Friday for England’s final World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania. The fact that the Three Lions have already qualified for next summer’s tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico could tempt the German to experiment with his group to see what some unfamiliar names can do.
There is competition over who will be selected to go to the World Cup as a backup striker option behind captain Harry Kane.
Welbeck, 34, has shown good form for Brighton recently, scoring six goals in his last five Premier League matches, including an eye-catching free-kick against former club Manchester United.
The striker has 46 caps for England, but has not played for his country since the 1-0 defeat to Belgium at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
When asked about the striker’s potential recall, Brighton coach Horzler said in a press conference on Thursday: “Definitely, it’s a topic at the moment with Danny Welbeck, so we just talked about it briefly and everyone had the same opinion.
“So I’ve never seen a football team agree 100 percent, so it was a nice talk, it was a nice discussion. But as I said, it’s not something we can influence now, we can only influence to help Danny Welbeck to support the best way he can do it. And I think he’s doing that at the moment and then we have to see what decision Thomas (Tuchel) will make.”
“But that’s the only focus we can really focus on is on Sunday, and trying to be there with the best team ready with Danny Welbeck.
Horzler added that he asked his team for something similar, with a show of hands for those who believe Welbeck should be included in Tuchel’s squad, and that this was agreed upon.

Asked whether Welbeck had heard anything from Tuchel at this stage, Horzler said: As I said, I think we will see that on Friday. So these are things we should not discuss publicly. That decision will be made on Friday, from what I hear. So let’s wait until then.
“And again, we should not focus too much on things that we cannot control. We should focus on a good training session today. We should focus on preparing well for the game on Sunday because I can repeat that: we have a big responsibility towards the whole club towards the fans on Sunday, and therefore we really need to focus on that. We cannot spend time with noise, (or things) that we cannot influence. We will see what happens tomorrow.”
Horzler’s comments come after he said he was sure “the other German” Tuchel would make the right decision on whether to give Danny Welbeck an England call-up after his goal in the 3-0 win over Leeds United last weekend.
