Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mural at Anfield was vandalized ahead of his return to Liverpool with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool at the end of last season, having made 354 appearances for his boyhood club after joining their academy at the age of six.
The 27-year-old has attracted criticism from some supporters after his contract on Merseyside expired, and he could face a hostile reception if he features for Xabi Alonso’s side at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Ahead of the clash, Alexander-Arnold’s mural near the stadium on Sybil Road, which shows the defender alongside the phrase “I’m just an ordinary boy from Liverpool with a dream come true”, was defaced with white paint.
The word “mouse” was written on the mural several times alongside the words Goodbye mice (Spanish for “goodbye, mouse”).
Cleaners have already been spotted trying to restore the mural, which was unveiled after Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019.
Speaking to Prime Video Sport ahead of Tuesday’s match, Alexander-Arnold said: “When the draw was announced, I think everyone knew it was going to happen, that match was scheduled to go ahead.

He added, “Obviously they are a big team so I knew that at some point I would end up going back there or playing against Liverpool. This will happen very soon. (I have) mixed feelings. I think it will be a very difficult match, but it is a match I am excited about.”
