The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure of the Maharashtra government on Tuesday approved the development of new metro rail lines from Hadapsar to Loni Kalpur and Hadapsar to Saswad Road railway station at a cost of Rs 5,704 crore.
“The committee headed by Devendra Fadnavis approved the proposal at the Mumbai meeting,” said Ajit Pawar, vice president and minister, Pune Guardian. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had approved the proposal in February this year which was then extended to the state government for approval and the state infrastructure committee will now submit the proposal to the state cabinet for approval and forward it to the union government for final approval for implementation.
Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro), which is implementing the Pune Metro Rail project, has submitted its Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the two new routes from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Hadapsar to Saswad route.
The route will be under the proposed metro route from Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Hadapsar which will be developed in the second phase of Pune Metro. The total length of the two tracks is 16 km and will include 14 elevated stations.
“The Metro lines will facilitate traffic on the Pune-Solapur route and discourage citizens from using private vehicles to commute in Pune city. It will provide safe and faster commuting to the citizens,” Pawar said.
The two routes will provide connectivity to and from Hadapsar, Phursonji, Loni Kalpur and Saswad which are rapidly urbanising, and he said it will help in reducing air pollution along with travel time for passengers.
“The DPR for the two new roads has been approved on the condition that the PMC does not provide guarantee for repayment of the loan to implement the project. The Pune civic body will only have an agreement of Rs 3.6 lakh crore to purchase the land for the project,” the Pune civic official said.

According to DPR, the proposed metro route from Hadapsar to Loni Kalpur will be 11.35 km long and have ten metro stations while the Hadapsar to Saswad Road railway station will be 5.57 km long with four metro stations. Both the state and federal governments will contribute 20 per cent of the total estimated cost of the project while 60 per cent will be raised through a loan.
“The Hadapsar to Loni Kalpur and Hadapsar to Saswad railway station sections are spur lines from Kharadi via Hadapsar and Swargate to Khadakwasla corridor which have already been approved by the state government,” said Atul Gadgil, Director, Pune Metro Railway.
The Hadapsar to Loni Kalpur line will have stations at Hadapsar Phata, Hadapsar Bus Depot, Akashwani-Hadapsar, Laxmi Colony, Stadium Farm, Manjari Phata, Draksha Baug, Tole Naka, Wak Vasti and Loni Kalpur. The Hadapsar to Saswad Road Railway Station bus depot will have stops at Hadapsar Gliding Club, Fursungi IT Park, Sulabh Garden and Saswad Road Railway Station.
