PUNE police have booked four petrol pump attendants on charges of murder days after a 20-year-old man died of his injuries after being beaten by them following a dispute over standing in the correct queue at the petrol station on October 13.
The accident occurred around 3.10 am on October 13 at an IOC filling station in Pune’s Warji Malwadi area. The police identified the deceased as Yash Pawar (20 years old), who hails from the town of Poladpur in Raigad district of Maharashtra. The first information report in the case was registered on Saturday afternoon on the complaint of his father Rajendra Pawar (58).
According to the FIR, Yash went to the petrol pump to refill his bike along with his three friends. At that time, he got into an argument with four gas station attendants about standing correctly in the queue. Yash and his friends were beaten by the four employees.
During this fight, Yash was punched on his head and face. “After sustaining a blow to his head and face, Pawar remained in the building for a while. But he later collapsed and lost consciousness. He was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.” An officer from Warje Malwadi police station said.
“Based on the complaint filed by his father and examination of the CCTV footage of the petrol pump, the four employees who beat up Pawar have been booked on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. We have cited charges of voluntarily causing hurt and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means,” the officer added. Further investigation is underway.”
Police have identified the four accused as Shivraj Ambaraya Gutti (23) from Gulbarga in Karnataka, Jeevan Mahadev Kavi (25) from Kilari in Latur district, Sanket Dhanaji Lankeshwar (25) from Tulhapur in Solapur, and Ritesh Rajendra Gaikwad (22), from Karad in Satara, all of whom are currently living in Warji.
