Abhishek Sharma’s rampage as he rose to the top of the T20I run-scoring charts continued when he became the fastest man to reach 1,000 T20I runs during India vs Australia’s fifth match at the Gabba on Saturday.
Opening the batting for the Men in Blue, Sharma reached the milestone when he hit 11 runs in 7 deliveries, completing the 1,000-run mark in just his 29th innings since his debut in July 2024.
While Virat Kohli holds the Indian T20I record as the fastest to reach 1,000 runs in 27 innings, the Punjab batsman dominates the global charts in terms of balls faced, having reached the milestone in his 28th innings.
Abhishek overtook India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav to become the fastest batsman to reach 1,000 T20I runs in balls alone. Suryakumar, who made his India T20I debut at the age of 31, reached the 1000 mark in 573 deliveries. Australian veteran Glenn Maxwell completed his 1000 runs in 603 balls.
