Mohanlal fans trend to ‘boycott Major Ravi’ after rumors claim the star is likely to join hands with the BJP leader to shoot a film on the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor | malayalam news

It goes without saying that there is no other actor in the Malayalam film industry who enjoys a huge fan base like him Mohanlal. Widely considered one of the finest actors the country has ever produced, Mohanlal is also the only major Malayalam actor to have two films in the Rs 200-crore club and four films crossing the Rs 100-crore mark, underscoring the unparalleled box office draw of award-winner Dadasaheb Phalke.

Meanwhile, the Malayalam star’s fans showed their strength once again by making a united effort to dissuade their beloved actor from making a career move that they consider disastrous at a time when he has finally stepped up after going through a rough patch for a long time.

Although there is no confirmation yet, rumors have been doing the rounds in the past few days that Mohanlal is gearing up to join forces with director-actor AK Raveendran, better known as Major Ravi, for another film. Since then, the actor’s fans have trended on social media with the hashtag #BoycottMajorRavi, categorically asserting that if the speculations are true, they will deliberately skip the Mohanlal film in theaters for the first time.

With the director himself taking to social media on Sunday to announce his next project, Pahalgam: Op Sindoor – albeit without revealing details regarding the cast or an official confirmation regarding Mohanlal’s association with him – the star’s fans are out in full force campaigning, stressing that they will not support this collaboration. But why? The reasons behind the hostility towards Ravi are many.

Who is Major Ravi?

Major Ravi was a former National Security Guard (NSG) commando, who served with the Indian Army for 20 years before leaving the force to join the film industry. He started out as an actor and played small roles in films like Mammootty Megam, Mohanlal Anthony’s Olympian Adam and Sraddha, as well as Jyothika Tabu’s Sneejeethi and Kamal Haasan’s Alavandan, before moving on to filmmaking. He made his debut by co-directing a film titled Punarjani, starring him Pranav Mohanlal In the leadership role. His performance earned Pranav the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. He then made his debut as an independent director with the Mohanlal-starrer war film Keerthi Chakra. Most of his later films revolve around military or defense personnel, notable examples being Mission 90 Days, Kurukshetra and Picket 43.

Although some of his films have been highly acclaimed, Ravi has often been heavily criticized for not maintaining a consistent level of quality in his filmmaking, with Kandahar, Karma Yoda, and 1971: Beyond Borders Being his most criticized work. Unfortunately, all three Mohanlal featured in the lead roles.

#Boycott_Major_Rafi and his connection to the Emporan controversy

One of the major criticisms that Mohanlal often faces from his fans is his tendency to commit to his friends’ films without a second thought. A section of fans believes that many of his so-called friends are just using him to sell their substandard films, and the current campaign against Major Ravi stems mainly from this concern. Considering that Mohanlal has not received any memorable projects, other than Keerthi Chakra, from this collaboration, fans feel that he is once again making a bad choice if the rumors are true.

Meanwhile, another reason for Malayalis’ extreme disdain towards Major Ravi stems from the way he threw director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran under the bus during the attack. L2: Emporan Controversyapparently to please his political masters. For the unversed, Ravi joined the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party in 2023 and was soon appointed as one of the party’s vice-presidents in the state. Initially, he praised the film for its artistic brilliance. Ravi made a complete turn After right-wingers began attacking the film for its depiction of the 2002 Gujarat massacre, which did not adhere to their narratives. While breaking into the film, Ravi also mentioned that Mohanlal did not have a habit of watching previews of any of his films, stating that he was aware of the controversial portions only after its release.

He also singled out Prithviraj and writer Murali Gopi for their alleged mishandling of the film’s themes, which led to an even more intense hate campaign against the actor and director. However, Emporan’s producer, Anthony Perumbavoor, He later rejected Ravi’s claimsStressing that all participants in the project were fully aware of the film’s story. This suggests that Ravi made Prithviraj a scapegoat to protect his relationship with Mohanlal while also using the controversy to gain political leverage.

Prithviraj’s fans, who have often shown immense love for Mohanlal, especially due to his star connections, also maintained that they will not support Ravi’s next project even if it features Big M, considering how the director played a key role in the alleged witch hunt of their beloved star.

Along with the hashtag “Boycott Major Ravi”, a Mohanlal fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “We are the ones who stayed together even when you were broken. I request you Laletta, please leave this film even though you remember us. I want to see more good films from you. Go and find something new… not old garbage.” Meanwhile, another user noted, “For the first time, I want L to bomb at the box office and in quality. I won’t be watching this.”

A third user wrote: “I have decided not to watch M-Ravi Mohanlal’s upcoming film in theatres, and will not be sharing or promoting any pre-release content related to it on my timeline. Among all his friends, M-Ravi has proven to be the worst of all! Pathetic!!!”

However, Ravi and Mohanlal are yet to respond on whether they will collaborate on the project inspired by the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, or on the ongoing campaign.
