NPCI to Impose Daily Usage Limit on UPI Services Starting August 1 Cap Balance Enquiries at 50 Per Day

There is an important news for crores of users using UPI. NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has released new guidelines regarding UPI services which will be applicable from 1 August 2025. Under these rules, a limit will now be installed on certain services so that the load of traffic on the system is under control and the network does not slow down or fails in peak time. Changes are especially about balance checks and autope transactions.

The most important thing is that now any user will be able to check his account balance only 50 times a day. The system will not respond when trying to see the balance more often. NPCI says that a large number of users repeatedly check the balance, which makes the server more load. Now after every transaction, Yajar will also get an automatic balance update, so that there is no need to check again and again.

Apart from peak time, i.e. from 10 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 9:30 pm, services like balance checks can remain partially closed or Limited Access during these hours. Similarly, automatic payments like UPI Autopay features, such as subscription, EMI or SIP, will now be processed only in non-time time.

NPCI says that these decisions have been taken keeping in mind the stability and smooth operation of the network. In the last few months, the transaction volume on UPI has gained tremendous lead, and this is why it has become necessary to protect the system from unnecessary load. If every user checks the balance 100 times a day, then it has a direct impact on the performance of the network.

However, these limits will apply only to some basic services. The facility like sending money, receiving or scanning the QR code will continue to work as before. But secondary features like balance check, autope are being reduced slightly to make the UPI network more strong and reliable.
