LONDON – Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn turned back the clock and stole the show at the pre-fight press conference for the rematch between their sons Eubank Jr. and Connor Benn on Thursday.
Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought twice in the 1990s in what became one of the most famous British boxing rivalries in history. Eubank won the first bout by knockout in 1990, before drawing the rematch three years later at Old Trafford.
Eubank Sr only decided to take part in the first match in April at the last minute, with his surprise arrival at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being met with cheers and huge applause from the fans. Eubank Jr. and his father had a tense relationship in the years leading up to the fight but were reunited shortly before.
However, Eubank Sr. was center stage at the press conference in London, where he walked on stage with his son to the tune of his old music. Tina Turner “Simply the Best”.
The two old rivals exchanged words – Eubank Sr claimed Nigel had accused him of getting paid to show up at the April fight.
“With regard to the son’s love, if the father takes money, there is nothing wrong with that,” Senior said. “But if there is a father who does not take money… that must be studied.”
“I don’t get angry easily, Nigel. I don’t keep a record of wrongs. That’s why I keep winning because I live by the laws of the spirit.
“So whoever told Nigel I received any amount of money has lied to you. Saying what they told you makes you a liar.
“So expose those who lied to you until your name is erased.”

When asked what he thought of Senior’s comments, Nigel Benn said: “Nothing. Water down the back, nothing at all. It’s about my son and Chris Junior. I’m not taking it into consideration. We’re here to talk about a fight.”
When Connor Ben suggested removing the face from the two, his father lit up and said, “Yes, I don’t mind removing the face! All day long, buddy! I’ll have it with him all day long. But it’s not about us. It’s about the son and Connor.”
Senior and Nigel confronted Benn after the press conference but shook hands with their sons who are scheduled to do battle again on Saturday.
