The Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday was purchased for Rs 2 lakh from a local car dealer in Faridabad on October 29, Indian Express has learnt.
Car dealer Devender Kumar said he bought the car for Rs 1.5 lakh from Spinny in March and later sold it to Amir Rashid of Pulwama for Rs 2 lakh in collaboration with Royal Car Zone – a used car dealer also located in Faridabad.
“Amir was accompanied by Omar Nabi, whom I recognized after seeing his pictures on television,” Kumar said.

“The car was not in a very good condition. I had to repair it and later put it up for sale on OLX. In the meantime, I also sought help from Royal Car Zone, as I know the dealer, to sell the car,” Defender said.
Amit Patel, owner of Royal Auto Zone, said Amir and Omar visited their showroom on October 28 and took the car for a test drive. “The next day, the two returned and bought the car, paying Rs 2,000 in cash,” he added.
Patel said the two approached them after seeing the car for sale on OLX.
While investigating the case, Delhi Police gained access to CCTV camera footage from a nearby petrol pump where Amir and Omar boarded an i20 for pollution inspection on October 29.

The footage, which was widely circulated in the media, shows three people. “One of them is our employee, who helped them shift the car to the pollution centre,” Patel said.
Kumar and Patel said that the police visited them on November 11 and recorded their statements.
Jammu and Kashmir Police detained Amir for questioning, police said. “But Amir revealed that he was not aware of Omar’s plan, which is being investigated,” an officer said.
According to the investigation, the car was originally bought by Salman from Okhla, and he sold it to the Spini Company a year and a half ago.
