The West Bengal School Service Commission on Saturday launched a new website to help teaching aspirants get their results, as many examinees are struggling to get them from the old portal, an official said. The WBSSC released the State Level Selection Test (SLST) results for assistant teachers in grades 11-12 at 9.30pm on Friday.
The results, which were uploaded on the commission’s official portal, paved the way for filling 12,514 vacant positions of assistant teachers in state-run and state-aided schools.
The Supreme Court on April 3 canceled the appointments of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff, calling the entire 2016 recruitment process “corrupt and tainted.” This is the first recruitment test to be held on September 14 after the Supreme Court order. The official told the news agency that a large number of candidates tried to log in simultaneously, and only a few of them were able to gain access.
“We have launched a new website wbsschelpdesk.com to facilitate over 2.29 lakh candidates who have written their papers. The old website is also working,” the official said, urging candidates to try in intervals and not continuously.
“Many candidates like me try to log in to the WBSSC website first and then to the newly launched help desk portal. But we are not getting much success,” said ambitious Subrata Biswas, expressing his frustration. Another examiner, Chinmoy Mondal, also claimed that he was unable to see the exam results despite submitting several bids since Thursday night.
Mondal is one of the officials of the Deserving Teachers’ Rights Forum, an organization formed after the Supreme Court’s April 3 ruling. Candidates who pass the test will advance to the interview process, which assesses pedagogical skills, subject matter knowledge and communication abilities – core competencies for effective teaching.
After the interviews, a final merit list will be prepared based on the combined scores from both stages. Successful candidates will then undergo document verification and submit original educational certificates, mark sheets and valid ID proofs before deadlines are confirmed.

The official said it was not immediately possible to ascertain how many teachers qualified for the new test out of the 25,753 teachers who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court ruling on April 3.
“I see that a large number of untainted candidates have passed the examination,” he said. “Untainted” candidates are those whose involvement in the 2016 hiring process has not been proven.
