The Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh Gujarat in its executive meeting held at Chandrala in Gandhinagar district unanimously passed a resolution to stop the “practice of arrest warrants” which spreads fear in the minds of teachers working as booth level officers (BLO) during polls.
In this regard, teachers will on November 15 submit a petition to Chief Electoral Officer and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patil while district teams will submit their petitions to district collectors.
Last week, the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shikhshik Mahasangh of Gujarat termed the practice of issuing arrest warrant for teachers missing on duty as Booth Level Officers (BLO) as a “slavish practice” and asked – in a representation to the state government – to “maintain the respect of teachers in the society”.
The meeting of office bearers held on Sunday passed three resolutions including the resolution regarding BLO duty by teachers. Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shikshik Mahasangh Gujarat president Mitesh Bhatt said that besides scrapping the practice of issuing arrest warrant, BLO teachers should be given leave during school hours and pressure from taluka officials should be eased.
“Not to give orders to do BLO to teachers who have already done it once. Teachers should be given BLO work in the school village in which they work and not on the basis of election cards. These are some of the other demands passed in the resolution,” Bhat said.
Other demands included relieving teachers from non-academic work, immediate recruitment of teachers, necessary amendments in the old teacher recruitment rules in accordance with the suggestions, allowing three hundred leaves to be converted into cash on retirement and a bonus for this period, remuneration for State Council duties in Classes
