The Telangana High Court on Friday refused to grant any relief to a businessman detained by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
A restraining order was issued against the detainee in September and since then, he has been lodged in the detention center of the Central Crime Center in Hyderabad.
The detainee’s father, Nirmal Das, had filed a habeas corpus petition in the matter.

The arrested person, Sanjit Das, is a native of Tripura and currently resides in the city. He was detained at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport when he was trying to travel to Abu Dhabi.
While it was found that his Indian passport was obtained using forged documents, Sanjit Das was also allegedly found carrying an identity card issued by the Bangladesh government.
While handing over the directions, the division bench noted, “Despite being a Bangladeshi citizen, he obtained an Indian passport fraudulently. We find no reason to release the detainee.”
Nirmal Das approached the Supreme Court claiming that the detention was illegal and sought his immediate release. The state’s lawyer said during the hearing that the detainee was not being detained illegally but under the Immigration and Aliens Act.

The bench noted that they found no scope for interference in the habeas corpus order for the release of the detainee since the FRRO acted in accordance with the Immigration and Aliens Act.
“However, he is free to avail recourse under the provisions of the law and represent his case before the FRRO for further proceedings,” the bench said and disposed of the matter.
