Tracking Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals: The path to 1,000 goals in his career

Cristiano Ronaldo is aiming to achieve what no footballer has officially achieved – despite Pele and Romario claiming otherwise when friendlies are added – in competitive matches: the ultimate feat of achieving 1,000 career goals. It is the pinnacle of statistical greatness, a record that would redefine the boundaries of individual excellence in the sport.

Throughout his career, the Portuguese star has broken the most records and won the most trophies he could have won, but his ability to officially score 1,000 goals will put him in a place of his own among athletes.

Ronaldo is already the men’s leading international goalscorer with 143 goals from 225 appearances, while the rest of his domestic career over his two-decade career has come in club action with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and now at Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

So, as he approaches an unusual milestone, ESPN will track each goal on his journey toward 1,000 — one stroke at a time — until he reaches the magic number.

Ronaldo’s goals tally:

  • Games played: 1,295

  • Objectives: 953

  • rate: 0.74 per game

Target No. 953 | November 8: NEOM 1 – Al-Nasr 3

Penalty kick in the 65th minute… but it was taken calmly as CR7 stuttered a bit, waited for the goalkeeper to jump to his right and then shot it into the net from his left side.

This is now a great number for sharing 100 goals in the Saudi League in 85 matches.

Objectives No. 951 and 952 | November 1: Al-Nasr 2-1 Al-Fayhaa

Another match, two more goals for the Portuguese legend.

Ronaldo was in good form on Saturday as Al-Nasr came back from a goal down to defeat Al-Fayhaa at King Fahd International Stadium.

After falling behind early, the 40-year-old latched on to a through ball from Kingsley Coman to restore parity for the hosts in the 37th minute. Ronaldo then held his nerve to score the winner from the penalty spot to ensure Al-Nasr maintained an unblemished seven-on-seven record to start the Saudi Professional League season.

Goal No. 950 | Oct. 24: Al Hazem 0-2 Al Nassr

The 40-year-old was on the scoresheet as he and compatriot Joao Felix helped Al-Nasr beat Al-Hazm continue their perfect start in the Saudi Professional League with six wins from their first six matches this season.

After a brilliant ball from team-mate Wesley, Ronaldo was able to easily score inside the box with a brilliant shot and now needs just 50 goals to reach a four-figure total.
