Two doctors from UP’s Kanpur and Hapur questioned, ‘in contact with accused terror unit’ | India News

The Delhi Special Cell, in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad, is interrogating two Kashmiri doctors working at GSVM Medical University, Kanpur, and a private hospital in Hapur. The officials said that the two doctors are being questioned in connection with the accused linked to the recently busted terror unit.

UP Police officers confirmed that a team from the Delhi Special Cell visited Kanpur on Wednesday night and took a doctor for interrogation to Lucknow. The doctor hails from Anantnag and joined GSVM Medical University three months ago to attend the DM course in the cardiology department. Officials said he knew Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Janai and Dr. Adeel Majeed Rather, who are among the accused in the terror unit case.

Another team from the Special Cell arrested a doctor who hails from Hapur city, Badgam, where he works in a private hospital. Officials said he knew both Dr. Ganai and Dr. Rather, as well as Dr. Omar Nabi, the Red Fort bombing perpetrator.

Investigators confirmed that the two doctors are being interrogated to confirm their knowledge of the accused and what they talked about.

Meanwhile, sources said they are now focusing on gathering more information about the activities of Dr Parvez Ansari, brother of another accused from the terror unit, Dr Shaheen Shahid Ansari.

Local policemen in Lucknow have been instructed to collect information about his movements and activities, while ATS is investigating the people he was in contact with. His devices were also seized from his home in Lucknow, officials said.

Like his sister, Dr Parvez is also in the custody of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

According to sources, information indicates that there may be some sympathizers of the unit in some areas of UP. Sources told The Indian Express that police teams have been alerted and are conducting investigations.
