Two years after a woman was found dead, her boyfriend has been arrested for murder: Police | Ahmedabad news

Dang Police on Monday arrested a man for his alleged involvement in the murder of a 25-year-old woman named Bavishya Bhoi, who disappeared two years ago from her home in Darpada village.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as 29-year-old Dinesh Deshmukh, a resident of God Fuhar village in Ahwa taluka of Dang. Deshmukh confessed to killing Bhoi, who lived four kilometers from his home, on February 10, 2023.

Upon investigation, the accused’s mobile phone was found in the same place where the deceased’s body was discovered in 2023.

On October 15, Dang District Superintendent of Police, Pooja Yadav, attended a Lok Darbar event at Saputara Hill station, where Bavishya’s brother Ganesh spoke to Yadav about the missing complaint lodged in 2023. He also cited the lack of progress in the investigation. SP Yadav then directed the police staff to act on the complaint registered on February 11, 2023 with Saputara police station. The cops learned that Bavishya was having an affair with Deshmukh, which Deshmukh denied when he was interrogated as the first suspect.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Yadav said, “We first took details of Bavisha along with her photographs of her in the clothes she was wearing at the time of her disappearance. We initially collected information about the unidentified bodies found in Dang district in 2023. About five bodies were discovered, and on checking the photographs of the unidentified dead, they were not identical. We expanded our search to nearby Navsari, Valsad and Tapi areas, reached out to their police forces, and collected details of the bodies of women.” Unidentified women found in 2023, as well as unsolved cases, our police team obtained photographs of 70 women from the three regions.

Talking about the investigation, she said, “The hard work proved fruitful as in one of the pictures, the clothes were identical, and that was of the body of an unidentified woman who was found in Dharampur taluka of Valsad district on February 17, 2023. Our teams contacted Dharampur police and got more pictures of the property found with the body of the unidentified woman. After examining these pictures of jewellery, clothes, garments, etc. obtained, we contacted Bavisha’s mother, Maniben Bhoi, who recognized the photo of her missing daughter in the body along with clothes, jewelry and clothing.

Revealing the details of the post-mortem report, Yadav said, “We checked with Dharampur police and found that the post-mortem report says that the victim was strangled to death. The post-mortem report states that the death occurred around five to six days before February 17. With the help of technical surveillance, we examined the mobile location of the accused and found him at the same place where the body was found.”

Deshmukh was again summoned to Saputara police station and questioned by police. He initially denied any involvement in Bhoi’s disappearance. Then when the police showed him the location details of his mobile phone, he was shocked and later confessed to killing Bhoi.

KG Niranjan, police sub-inspector of Domestic Crime Branch of Dang police, said, “The accused admitted to having an affair with Bavisha but did not want to marry her. Bavisha was pressuring him to marry, but he was distancing himself. On February 10, 2023, the accused was in Valsad selling vegetables. Bavisha called him and later came to Valsad to meet him. The couple went to Dharampur on the hill in Okta village, in Dinesh’s bike, and quarreled over the issue After marriage, Dinesh lost his temper and attacked Bavisha, strangling her to death with the scarf she was wearing. He also took her mobile phone and two SIM cards, and after disposing of the cards in different places, he also got rid of her mobile phone.

Dang police handed over Deshmukh’s custody to Dharampur police on Monday evening.
