Amid a deluge of reported incidents involving misconduct by taxi drivers in India, an Uber driver has caught the attention of the internet for his thoughtful gesture towards an Australian woman stuck in traffic during Chhath Puja celebrations. The incident came to light when podcaster and influencer Bri Steele shared her intimate experience on Instagram, praising the taxi driver for bringing her food and water.
In the now-viral video, Steele shared that she was stuck in traffic for two hours. After the hassle, the Uber taxi driver bought her water, kebab and soft drinks and refused to take the money.
“Uber drivers in India, or maybe just in Mumbai, are icons! I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours due to Chhath Puja (the ride usually takes 15 minutes). My Uber driver was so nice!” she said in the video. “He stopped and bought us water, kebabs and a can of soft drinks.”
“I’ve had several Uber drivers in Mumbai taking care of me and helping me, which is so cool!” I wrote. “I had one driver get me through flood waters to the airport on time. One driver stopped to retrieve my shoe that had fallen out of the car. And now this!”

The video quickly gained traction, sparking a wave of reactions praising the taxi driver. “Kind people always meet nicer people,” one user wrote. Another user commented: “Thank you Uber driver for keeping Indians proud.. and thank you for spreading positivity in India. We say ‘atithi devo bhavah’ which means – ‘Our guests are like God to us’.”
“Thanks for focusing on the good. But not everyone is good and not everyone is bad. Never let your guard down. Bon voyage,” a third user responded. “It’s good that you had a nice experience. But for your safety. Do not consume anything offered. Carry water and emergency snacks with you while traveling to avoid any untoward incident,” warned a fourth steel user.
