Woman arrested for killing two children in Gujarat; Father-in-law injured Ahmedabad news

A woman allegedly strangled her two sons while they were sleeping and then allegedly attacked her father-in-law, who managed to escape and alert neighbors late Thursday night in Bilimora town of Navsari district.

The police entered their apartment after she “refused to open the door” and detained her. The woman’s husband has been in hospital for four days.

The police said that the incident occurred in an apartment in the Maharaja’s apartment in the Dasra area. Shivkant Sharma (33), originally from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, works as a carpenter in Bilimora, where he has lived for about ten years with his wife Sunita, their children aged four and seven, and his parents, Indrapal Sharma (62) and Susri Sharma (60).

On Friday, Shivkant was diagnosed with typhoid and was shifted to a private hospital, where doctors said he was recovering.

According to police, on Thursday night, Indrapal and Susree went to the hospital carrying food for Shivkant. Indrapal later returned home and slept, while Susri stayed behind. Sunita was in her bedroom with the kids. Police said she strangled the boys while they were sleeping and then went to Indrapal’s room, where she allegedly attacked him with a glass and bit his hand. When he tried to escape, she allegedly bit his ear. Indrapal managed to run outside and call for help, attracting neighbors to the apartment. Police said Sunita locked the front door from the inside and did not respond when neighbors knocked on the door.

Officers from Bilimora Town Police Station arrived at the scene early on Friday morning after being alerted by neighbours. They said they broke down the door and found Sunita in her bedroom, near the bodies of the two children. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Indrapal later filed a complaint of murder and attempted murder with Bilimora police station.

“We took her to a psychiatrist in the hospital and found that she was mentally unstable,” said Navsari, deputy superintendent of police, P V Gohil. She told us that she had done such an act for ‘Pitrumuksh’. The family is a middle-class family, and all the members of the family are educated, including the accused, who graduated in arts from Jaunpur in UP. She told us that someone was coming to her dreams for the last two days and told her that she had to sacrifice her two sons, and after that, all things became normal in her life. She got married in 2016 from Shivkant and moved to Bilimora, she was also stressed due to her husband’s illness, we will keep a psychiatrist with us and question her.

He added that during interrogation, Sunita allegedly confessed to strangulation. “She disclosed that on the Thursday night (before the crime) she took a shower and sat to pray in her bedroom.”
